Lipofreeze - Non-invasive, targeted fat removal

Science Behind Lipofreeze

Lipofreeze is a controlled, non-invasive cooling of localized fat deposits to reduce their size and thereby reshape body contours. The basis of this treatment is the notion that precise exposure to low temperatures will selectively “kill” fat cells below the skin’s surface while leaving the skin itself undamaged and intact. Cold or popsicle panniculitis is a condition in which exposure to extreme cold (e.g. a popsicle) leads to the formation of ice crystals within certain cells such as fat cells.

Lipofreeze is an ingeniously simply technique, and the treatment makes use of intense cold to first locate and then eliminate deposits of fatty cells in common “fat hold-out” areas like the back and the hips. After the targeted freezing of the fat cells they begin a process called apoptosis (programmed cell death). The body’s natural reaction to a Lipofreeze treatment is an inflammatory response that causes the body to dispose of the damaged fat cells. These inoperative—and now crystallized—fatty cells are then flushed out of the patient’s body during the two to three week period after the treatment has taken place through the body’s normal waste elimination system. The effect of the treatment typically occurs over the course of a couple of months but some patients can often able to see physical results within a very short amount of time.

The Lipofreeze procedure is performed on an out-patient basis in a doctor’s office and requires no anesthesia. Patients report little to no pain during the procedure and any cold related discomfort dissipates a few minutes after the procedure is completed. Side effects are typically temporary and may include redness, tingling, bruising, tenderness, cramping and a temporary dulling of sensation.
